Regulating Organizations and Standards

We design playstructures for kids to enjoy continuous fun — safely. We're proud to share this philosophy with the organizations that establish the regulations and standards governing the manufacture and design of playground equipment.

Landscape Structures is a member in good standing of the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA), a member-driven, international trade organization. IPEMA represents and promotes an open market for manufacturers of play equipment.

In the interest of public playground safety, IPEMA provids a Third Party Certification service, whereby a designated independent laboratory validates a participant's certification of conformance to the ASTM Standard F-1487, Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Playground Equipment for Public Use.

The use of the IPEMA seal signifies that Landscape Structures has received written validation from the independent laboratory that the product associated with the use of the seal conforms with the requirements of ASTM F-1487.

Space requirements displayed on this Web site follow ASTM standards. The requirements of other standards may differ.

All PlayOdyssey™, PlayBooster®, PlayVenture®, PlayShaper® and Independent Playthings displayed here have been validated by the independent laboratory and therefore certified by IPEMA.

Quality assurance and environmental standards

ISO 9001 is an international set of quality assurance standards, which provide industries a structure to ensure all operational processes are consistent and effective. ISO 9001 is the most comprehensive of the ISO 9000 family of standards and covers quality processes for both design and manufacturing. ISO 9001 certification combines with our documented safety requirements for ASTM, CPSC and ADA.

ISO 14001 is an environmental tools and systems management program. This certification establishes the highest level of corporate commitment to the prevention of pollution and fosters a cultural change toward environmental management practices.

Safety and accessibility standards

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is a scientific and technical organization that establishes standards for testing different types of materials, including playground equipment. Unless otherwise noted, all LSI playground equipment meets the ASTM F-1487 Standard of safety and accessibility requirements.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent agency of the federal government whose charter is to inform the public of unreasonable risks associated with consumer products. The CPSC has developed safety guidelines for playgrounds, which are published in the "Handbook for Public Playground Safety," available in our Free Literature section. CPSC guidelines are closely linked to ASTM standards.

Most LSI products also conform to the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Standard CAN/CSA-Z614-98 Guideline on children's play spaces and equipment. Most LSI products also conform to the European Standard EN1176, Parts 1-6,.TUV Product Service, Munich, Germany, is the certifying engineering agency for LSI products.
