Q: Our playstructure becomes very dirty when the kids track mud and dirt from other areas of the playground. Does Landscape Structures have any recommendations for a good cleaning solution that can be used with a power washer?
A: As a rule, powdercoat paint and TenderTuff® are resistant to most cleaning solutions. For this reason, I would recommend any nonabrasive, water-based, mild, soapy solution, which will not leave a filmy residue or slippery surface. Most car wash soaps that are available at a variety of retail stores would work well.

Q: I have noticed that someone has carved their initials in our plastic slide. Is there something we can do to fix this?
A: If the scratches are not too deep, they may be removed with sandpaper. After sanding, run a small propane torch quickly over the wound to melt the scratches the sandpaper made, being careful not to burn the plastic. If the scratches are too deep for sandpaper, you will have to bevel the area, carefully removing material with a razor blade or utility knife to eliminate the deep cuts. Then do the sandpaper and torch procedure. However, even after this, you may still see a blemish.

Q: Landscape Structures recently sent us a retrofit kit for our playstructure. Our maintenance personnel are not comfortable making repairs without additional information. Does Landscape Structures offer any technical assistance?
A: Absolutely. The phone number for the Technical Assistance Department is 1-888-LSI4HLP. Typically, Landscape Structures also includes step-by-step instructions with any retrofit kits sent out.

Q: I’m the new maintenance supervisor in my park. Your equipment is great, but I’ve noticed some spots that look like they have been touched up with paint, but not very neatly. Can they be cleaned up?
A: Every Landscape Structures playstructure comes with a complete maintenance kit with information on proper maintenance and repair. Structures exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time may experience some fading. For this reason, the paint found within the maintenance kit may not be a perfect match for the structure. Touch-up paint has about a one-year shelf life, so if you need a replacement or cannot locate your kit, contact your local Landscape Structures representative.

Q: How often should we get our playstructures inspected?
A: More than one-third of all playground injuries are due to poor maintenance. Putting it off can cause harm to children, which could expose you to liability. We recommend having a Certified Playground Safety Inspector do an audit and then establish an inspection schedule. Many installers and Landscape Structures representatives are certified through the National Playground Safety Institute (NPSI).
